OF COUNSEL

Travis Young, Ph.D.

He endeavors to help clients successfully navigate the intellectual property aspects of those challenges at all touchpoints including in fundraising, patent procurement, in and out-licensing, portfolio management, freedom to operate, commercialization and adversarial proceedings.

Travis finds that his many years of in-house experience at a pharma company has instilled in him insight that inures to the benefit of his clients in maximizing the value of their inventions while mitigating risk.

“Working in-house gave me the opportunity to advise the client at every level—from bench scientist to the executive team—as to intellectual property issues.  Because of that I have a perspective on how each role can contribute to intellectual property strategy and leverage intellectual property protection for an organization, both in terms of building IP assets and in navigating third party patent issues that may arise.”

Travis has extensive experience in designing, procuring and managing complex patent portfolios in the U.S. and worldwide. Patents Travis has obtained on behalf of clients have stood up to the rigors of litigation, as well as post-grant proceedings in the U.S. and in Europe.

“My work with a company to build a portfolio of patent rights around a product as it advanced through a decade of clinical investigations is among my most professionally gratifying. The portfolio I helped them build provides exclusivity for the client and has generated significant out-licensing revenue, which in turn allowed the company to reinvest in developing new products.”

In addition to the successful defense of his clients and their IP against third party attacks, Travis also has experience supporting successful challenges against third party patents in proceedings in the U.S. and abroad.

Travis also provides advice in the evaluation of patent assets that are the target of investment, acquisition or licensing, in the context of both private and public transactions.
