Rudy J. Ng
PARTNER
Rudy brings to his clients over 15 years of experience in patent law, deep technical knowledge gleaned through his graduate degree in chemistry and biochemistry, and hands-on experience as a small molecule process chemist at Gilead Sciences.
While Rudy’s practice focuses on chemistry and pharmaceuticals, including small molecule therapies and pharmaceutical formulations, he also has experience in crafting global patent portfolios in technology areas that bridge multiple technical fields: antibody-drug conjugate therapies, vaccines, nutraceuticals, medical devices, research tools and reagents, and green technology.
His practice serves a range of clients—from early-stage startup companies to midsized pharmaceutical companies to academic institutions—as well as a panoply of services, including patent prosecution in the US and abroad, freedom to operate analyses, patentability and validity opinions, and patent term extensions.
Rudy recognizes that his diverse clients have diverse needs, which require keen attention, clear, concise communication, responsiveness, and an approachable demeanor.
“I make a special effort to encourage my clients to communicate with me, and to listen to them completely before jumping into problem-solving mode. As a patent attorney, our natural tendency may be to spot issues quickly and offer solutions. Listening carefully to the client and thoroughly considering the issues before formulating and offering an approach to address the issues is not only critical to the process, it also ensures the client feels confident they have been heard.”
Rudy’s practical approach when dealing with a client’s patent issues helps protect their intellectual property while aligning with their strategic business goals.
In addition to serving his clients’ needs, Rudy also finds great satisfaction in working with others in the firm as part of an effective and efficient team in the service of clients.
“BFF is the first and only law firm I have worked for. As a junior associate, the more senior patent practitioners took the time to teach me the basics of patent practice while giving me the opportunity to learn and grow into my practice. I’m happy to be doing the same now that I am a partner and one of the senior patent practitioners at the firm.”
NOTEWORTHY
Rudy’s graduate research, which focused on synthesis and evaluation of phosphoramidate and phosphoramidothionate inhibitors of glutamate hydrolases, resulted in two scientific publications and his selection for presentation at the National Meeting of the American Chemical Society.
